Nebolisa Arah at 75: Celebrating Legacy of Integrity, Leadership

Nebolisa Arah, the founding Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, was honored at a thanksgiving service in Lagos marking his 75th birthday, celebrating a career built on integrity, humility, and accountability. Twenty-three years after departing Fidelity Bank, Arah's influence continues to inspire banking professionals who were shaped by his mentorship.

The event brought together former colleagues, associates, lawyers, politicians, and friends, who lauded Arah not just for his pioneering role at Fidelity Bank but for the enduring values he instilled. His leadership legacy is characterized by a commitment to ethical practices and mentorship that has transcended generations within the banking sector.

Arah's professional journey began outside of banking, with a stint at Lever Brothers Nigeria Limited. He transitioned to banking in 1981 at International Merchant Bank Limited, rising to Senior Manager before joining Fidelity Union Merchant Bank Limited (later Fidelity Bank Plc) in 1988. He served as its Managing Director until December 2003, playing a pivotal role in the bank's formative years.

His career extended beyond Fidelity, including independent directorships at commercial banks, merger consultancy, and founding AGL and LDL. He later served as Managing Director and CEO of Afribank Nigeria Plc from 2009 to 2011 and chaired Afribank International in Dublin. Arah has also held board positions at various financial institutions, including Consolidated Discounts Limited and Nigeria Interbank Settlement System.
