Neighbor dispute over fallen bicycle ends in fatal stabbing

A minor dispute over an electric bicycle tragically escalated into a fatal stabbing between neighbors in An Giang province, Vietnam. The incident, which occurred on July 9, has led to the detention of a 54-year-old man, Huỳnh Tấn Hải, by the provincial police for murder.

According to initial reports, the conflict began around 10:45 AM when Hải passed by the house of his neighbor, P.M.N., who was drinking with friends. Hải noticed N.'s electric bicycle had fallen over near the house. Later that day, as N. was returning home, he accused Hải of causing the bicycle to fall. This accusation sparked a heated argument and a challenge to fight.

In the ensuing confrontation, N. reportedly went into his house to retrieve a knife and chased Hải. Hải fled for about 30 meters before tripping and falling. N. then kicked Hải in the chest. Enraged by this assault, Hải drew a knife he was carrying and fatally stabbed N. multiple times. Following the incident, Hải surrendered to the Mỹ Hòa Hưng commune police.

Separately, the An Giang Provincial Police have also initiated a murder investigation against 24-year-old Nguyễn Hồng Kỳ, who allegedly stabbed his wife due to jealousy. The investigation into Kỳ's case reveals that he and his wife had been living together since 2022, and recent conflicts arose when Kỳ discovered his wife was frequently communicating with other men. This led to a violent altercation on July 3, during which Kỳ stabbed his wife multiple times. She survived the attack and is recovering, while Kỳ has also surrendered to the police.
