Neighbors rescue over 30 malnourished dogs from Lima home; authorities aware since 2023

Neighbors in the Los Olivos district of Lima, Peru, took matters into their own hands to rescue more than 30 dogs, including puppies, from a house where they were kept in deplorable and malnourished conditions. The intervention came after residents alerted by a strong odor from the property decided to force entry.

The neighbors opted to force access to the property, considering the animals' situation required immediate intervention.

Upon entering the home, rescuers discovered the animals crammed into unsanitary spaces, many showing extreme thinness. Some puppies appeared to be only a few days old. Municipal security personnel arrived later, initially responding to a potential break-in, but confirmed the neighbors' rescue efforts.

The dogs showed marked physical deterioration and poor feeding.

According to local reports, authorities were aware of the animals' plight since at least 2023, with residents filing complaints about the foul odors and the dogs' abandonment. However, the occupant of the house reportedly prevented municipal and police access on previous occasions. The dogs have since been moved to a nearby park where volunteers are providing food, basic care, and seeking temporary homes for adoption.
