Nepal and Tibet Floods: Glacier Collapse Causes 273 Deaths, 1300 Missing

A devastating mudslide on the border between Nepal and the autonomous Chinese territory of Tibet has claimed at least 273 lives, with over 1300 people reported missing. The catastrophic event, which occurred midweek, unleashed a powerful torrent of water, mud, and debris that surged down the mountain at high speed.

Among the missing are 570 tourists, and tragically, four French nationals are also unaccounted for. The scale of the disaster is still unfolding, with authorities continuing to update the grim toll.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the massive flood may have been caused by the collapse of a glacier. The force of this collapse was reportedly so immense that it also triggered a magnitude 5.2 earthquake and numerous landslides in the surrounding areas.
