Nepal Issues New Flood Warning as Bhote Koshi River Water Levels Rise

Nepal is on high alert again as authorities issued a new flood warning on Friday, citing a significant rise in water levels in the Bhote Koshi River. This warning comes just days after a devastating flash flood struck the same region on Wednesday, highlighting the volatile nature of the area's waterways.

Information has been received that the flow of water mixed with debris and mud has increased again today in the Bhote Koshi River area in Rasuwa, where a major flood occurred on August 26.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported that the water levels, carrying debris and mud, have increased in the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa. This is the same location that was hit by a major flood recently, raising fears of a recurrence or further related events.

Given the potential for another flood, the NDRRMA has issued urgent directives. All personnel involved in rescue and relief operations along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers have been instructed to exercise extreme caution. Additionally, anyone remaining in high-risk zones is advised to be vigilant and prepare for immediate evacuation if any signs of danger appear.

The death toll from the initial devastating flood has climbed to 475, with hundreds still missing. Rescue teams continue their search for survivors and bodies downstream.
