Malaysian firefighters ready to deploy to Nepal for SAR operations

The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) stands ready to deploy its specialized teams to Nepal to assist in search and rescue (SAR) operations, provided the Malaysian government issues the directive. The department has already undertaken preliminary preparations, including identifying suitable personnel and ensuring all necessary documentation is in order for a swift deployment.

According to JBPM Director-General Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad, the involvement of Malaysian teams is subject to an official request from the Nepalese government. This request would then be coordinated through Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).

He confirmed that JBPM has identified experienced members from the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART), who possess the requisite skills for international disaster response operations.

Nor Hisham highlighted JBPM's readiness, noting that their experience in previous missions, such as the humanitarian aid and SAR operations in Turkey, has maintained a high level of preparedness for international assignments. "If an order is issued, the involved team can be deployed within a short period, regardless of the notice given. If there is an instruction, even on short notice, we are ready to be deployed," he added. He also conveyed his hopes for the safety of those affected by the disaster in Nepal and for the smooth facilitation of rescue efforts.
