Nepal President thanks India for flood support

Nepal's President Ramchandra Paudel expressed deep gratitude to India on Saturday for its support and solidarity in the wake of a devastating flash flood. The disaster, which struck on August 26, has resulted in a tragic loss of life, with 626 people confirmed dead and 2,426 still missing.

In messages shared on X, President Paudel conveyed his profound thanks to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and the Indian government for their "generous support and solidarity." He also extended heartfelt condolences to India for the loss of Indian nationals in the calamity.

India has been actively involved in relief and rescue efforts. A third flight carrying assistance landed in Kathmandu on Friday, with supplies handed over to Nepal's Minister Mahabir Pun. Additionally, India dispatched an 11-member medical and tunnel rescue team to aid in the operations.

The support extended by India has been multifaceted. The MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted the rescue of 21 Tamil Nadu residents and 63 workers from the Trishuli-I hydropower project. Furthermore, the Bihar government successfully rescued approximately 100 pilgrims from Maharashtra who were stranded in Kathmandu, facilitating their return home.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported that the Bhotekoshi flood disaster has claimed 626 lives, with Chitwan district recovering the highest number of bodies at 233. The scale of the disaster underscores the critical need for ongoing international cooperation and aid.
