Nervous UNAM hopefuls line up for entrance exam in Guanajuato

Nervous energy and parental blessings filled the air as dozens of hopefuls for the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) began their in-person control exam in León, Guanajuato. The applicants formed a queue stretching over 100 meters along the sidewalk of Adolfo López Mateos boulevard, eagerly awaiting access to the Real de Minas hotel's presidential hall.

The scene unfolded under a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius (82 degrees Fahrenheit), with students using umbrellas and papers to shield themselves from the sun. Many were accompanied by their parents, who offered words of encouragement and embraces. "I'm so nervous!" one young woman exclaimed to her mother, who responded with a comforting pat and hug.

Applicants, mostly between 17 and 24 years old, clutched their admission forms and identification. Some shared smiles with fellow candidates, while others maintained a serious demeanor, focused on the significant challenge ahead. Parents expressed their hopes and anxieties, with some having traveled from distant states like Michoacán and Querétaro.

Traffic control was in place as vehicles continuously dropped off students. The exam commenced at 5:00 p.m., with a three-hour time limit for responses, though access remained open for latecomers. UNAM faculty members were present as observers to ensure the integrity of the examination process.
