Netflix to premiere film recreating 'El Chapo' Guzmán's capture

Netflix is set to release "La captura," a new film that recreates the dramatic events surrounding the 2016 capture of Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán. The movie, directed by Chava Cartas and written by Bernardo Esquinca, promises to bring the high-stakes operation to the screen.

The film's plot centers on two federal police officers, Arturo Carmona, played by Alfonso Herrera, and Héctor Rosales, portrayed by Noé Hernández. During a routine patrol, they unexpectedly encounter the world's most wanted criminal. Netflix highlighted in a statement that the officers face a critical choice: apprehend "El Chapo" and risk everything, or accept a lucrative bribe and let him go.

The trailer reveals that Héctor Kotsifakis will portray the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, while Juan Pablo Cruz García will play narcotraficante Jorge Iván "El Cholo" Gastélum, described as "El Chapo's" head of security and chief hitman. Paola Fernández will appear as Carmona's wife, Isaura. The production is set in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, the same location where Guzmán was eventually captured before his extradition to the U.S. in 2017.

"La captura" is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 21, offering viewers a fictionalized account of a pivotal moment in the war on drugs.
