New Allegations Surface in Rojin Kabaiş Case: Witness Claims Threats from Rector's Associates

The investigation into the suspicious death of Rojin Kabaiş, a student at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, has taken a new turn with emerging allegations of witness intimidation. A key witness reportedly received death threats at gunpoint from individuals allegedly linked to the university's rector, Hamdullah Şevli.

Abdurrahman Karabulut, the lawyer representing the Kabaiş family, confirmed that a separate investigation file has been opened regarding these threats. He has formally requested that this new file be merged with the ongoing investigation into Kabaiş's death. This development adds another layer of complexity to an already sensitive case.

We have requested that a DNA examination be carried out on hair, saliva, and other biological materials that can be obtained from the human body. We objected to expanding the scope of the current procedure.

Further complicating matters, DNA samples were collected in May from Rector Hamdullah Şevli and his nephew, Enes Şevli, as part of the original investigation. However, Karabulut argues that the previously obtained blood samples are insufficient. He has petitioned the prosecutor's office for a more comprehensive DNA examination, including hair, saliva, and other biological materials.

Karabulut maintains that, based on witness testimonies and existing evidence, the rector should be considered a suspect under the Turkish Penal Procedure Code. He stressed that the rector's voluntary provision of DNA samples does not alter this status, as the family's legal team retains the right to request further actions against individuals deemed suspects. The lawyer also requested the seizure of the rector's mobile phone, along with an examination of his call records and cell tower data, similar requests were made for university security personnel involved in the case.
