New App Launched for Sri Lankan Migrant Workers to Report Grievances

Migrant workers from Sri Lanka now have a streamlined channel to voice their concerns with the launch of the LankaKonect mobile application. This new tool aims to provide a quick and accessible way for individuals working abroad to report workplace grievances and other issues directly to the Sri Lankan authorities.

The app, introduced on International Domestic Workers Day, is designed to facilitate communication between migrant workers and the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). Users can submit complaints and report problems encountered at their place of employment through the application, ensuring their issues are formally registered.

Beyond issues related to foreign employment, the LankaKonect app also serves Sri Lankans living abroad for educational or residency purposes. They can use the app to direct their complaints to the Consular Affairs division of the Ministry of External Affairs. The application supports multiple forms of complaint submission, including written text, voice clips, and video clips, offering flexibility to users.

Developed by Sri Lanka Mobitel in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Employment, and with financial backing from the International Labour Organization, LankaKonect is accessible globally. The app is available in English, Sinhala, and Tamil, and can be downloaded for free from both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Users can also track the status of their submitted complaints through the app.
