New Arrests in Brazil After Fatal Rope-Jump Incident

Brazilian authorities have made further arrests in the ongoing investigation into a fatal rope-jumping accident that claimed the life of a young woman. Police have apprehended three additional suspects, bringing the total number of individuals detained in connection with the incident to six.

The recent arrests stem from evidence suggesting a potential cover-up and tampering with crucial information. Specifically, investigators are focusing on the disappearance of a recording device the victim was using during the jump. "In the course of the investigation, indications of possible suppression of evidence relevant to the investigation have been gathered, particularly in connection with the disappearance of the recording device used by the victim during the jump," stated lead investigator Andréa Levy.

The newly detained individuals, a 29-year-old woman and two men aged 25 and 27, are believed to be part of the team responsible for organizing and executing the ill-fated jump. Temporary arrest warrants have been issued for five days, and courts have authorized searches and seizures of mobile phones, electronic devices, and other evidence. Investigators are also examining the possibility that digital content may have been deleted after the accident.

The probe is examining suspicions that the organizers may have knowingly disregarded safety protocols, potentially leading to the woman's death. Authorities are also investigating potential obstruction of justice. The victim fell approximately 40 meters from the disused Ponte do Esqueleto between Limeira and Cordeirópolis in São Paulo state on June 13. Video footage appears to show event staff pushing her off the platform even though the safety rope remained unattached on the platform.
