New details in Istanbul murder: Husband allegedly killed wife after she sought divorce

A woman's alleged murder in Istanbul has revealed a disturbing sequence of events, beginning with a domestic dispute and ending with a staged missing person report.

Bedriye Karaçay, a mother of three, reportedly told her husband, Volkan K., that she wanted a divorce. She cited his persistent drug use as a negative influence on their children and expressed her desire to raise them alone. This conversation allegedly escalated into a violent argument at their home.

According to the investigation, Volkan K. confessed to strangling Karaçay in the living room. He then reportedly wrapped her body in a blanket, secured it with a rope, and placed it in a taxi. He allegedly contacted his brother, Gökhan G., and together they transported the body to a wooded area in Sarıyer, Ayazağa Yeşiltepe Mevkii, where they buried it in a shallow grave.

Adding a layer of deception, Volkan K. and Gökhan G. reportedly filed a missing person report for Bedriye Karaçay. They allegedly told relatives that she might have gone to visit her family. However, police found no evidence to support this claim. Security camera footage did not show Karaçay leaving the area as suggested, and cell phone records placed Volkan K. in the direction of Ayazağa on the day of the incident.

Investigators apprehended Volkan K., who initially denied the murder but confessed after being presented with evidence and revealed the body's location. The victim's remains were found in the forest, showing signs of damage from wild animals. The exact cause of death will be determined by the Forensic Medicine Institute's report. The investigation into Volkan K. and his brother is ongoing.
