New Generation Mitsubishi Pajero Teased, Hybrid Version Possible for Vietnam Market

Mitsubishi is set to revive its iconic Pajero SUV, with the company releasing the first teaser images of the new generation model. The global debut is slated for September 2026, signaling a significant comeback for the vehicle after it was discontinued nearly five years ago.

The teaser images reveal a Pajero with a more squared-off, rugged aesthetic, featuring a vertical windshield, a flat hood, and a muscular body characteristic of off-road SUVs. Reports suggest the new Pajero will utilize a ladder-frame chassis, shared with the new Triton, a departure from the previous generation's unibody construction.

Powertrain options are expected to include a 2.4-liter Bi-Turbo diesel engine, similar to the Triton, producing around 204 horsepower and 470 Nm of torque, coupled with the Super Select 4WD II system. Notably, Mitsubishi is reportedly considering a plug-in hybrid variant, which would be a first for the Pajero nameplate, aligning with global electrification trends.

Thailand is anticipated to be the primary production hub for the new Pajero in the ASEAN region, increasing the likelihood of its availability in Vietnam shortly after its global launch. The return of the Pajero, a model with over 40 years of history and more than 3.3 million units sold worldwide, is expected to bolster Mitsubishi's competitiveness against rivals like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Ford Everest, and Isuzu mu-X in the body-on-frame SUV segment.
