New goaltending coach joins Finnish women's national ice hockey team

The Finnish women's national ice hockey team, Naisleijonat, has welcomed a new addition to its coaching staff. Joni Myllykoski, 42, has been appointed as the team's new goaltending coach, bringing fresh expertise to the squad.

Myllykoski will work alongside head coach Tero Lehterä, coach Kari Martikainen, and video coach Kalle Kerman, who are continuing in their established roles. Myllykoski, a former SM-liiga goaltender who played for JYP, Lukko, and HPK, has spent recent years coaching in Switzerland.

Naisleijonat is currently gearing up for the IIHF Women's World Championship, scheduled to take place in Denmark in November. The team is focused on reclaiming a spot on the medal podium, a goal following their sixth-place finish at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in February. In Denmark, they will be defending the bronze medal they secured at the 2025 World Championships.
