New Head Appointed for Lithuania's State Tax Inspectorate

Martynas Endrijaitis officially took the helm of the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI) on Tuesday, commencing his five-year term as the institution's new chief. His appointment follows a competitive selection process that saw 32 candidates vying for the position.

Endrijaitis brings extensive experience to the role, having dedicated more than a decade to the VMI. He most recently served as the deputy head of the institution starting in March 2021. Prior to that, he was the acting deputy head from 2020 to 2021 and a senior advisor to the VMI leadership between 2018 and 2020. His career within the VMI began in the Direct Taxation Division of the Legal Department.

His academic background includes a doctorate in law from Vilnius University, where he also completed his master's studies in accounting and auditing. Furthermore, Endrijaitis enhanced his leadership skills by completing an organizational change management module for top executives at ISM University of Management and Economics in 2022. He also served as a member of the Tax Disputes Commission from 2016 to 2018.

The VMI plays a crucial role in Lithuania's financial system, responsible for administering taxes, ensuring the collection of state budget revenue, advising citizens and businesses on tax matters, and enforcing tax compliance.
