New Head of National Nutrition Agency clarifies academic background

Nanik S Deyang has emerged as the new Head of Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN), taking the helm following a leadership reshuffle. In her first public appearance since the appointment on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Deyang addressed a common misconception about her academic background, clarifying that she holds a degree in biology, not forestry.

"Before I go to the main angle, let me introduce myself. You all know me, I am Naniek S Dayang, a Bachelor of Biology, I repeat, not a Bachelor of Forestry, a Bachelor of Biology," she stated during a press conference at the BGN office. Deyang previously served as the Deputy Head of BGN before being promoted to lead the agency. President Prabowo Subianto had dismissed the former head, Dadan Hindayana, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

During the press conference, Deyang also introduced the two new Deputy Heads who will serve alongside her: Agustina Arumsari and Major General TNI Trenggono. Their appointments are expected to bolster the agency's efforts in managing the 'Free Nutritious Meal' (Makan Bergizi Gratis - MBG) program, a key initiative under the current administration.

The leadership change and Deyang's clarification of her qualifications signal a new phase for the BGN as it continues its work on national nutrition programs. The agency plays a crucial role in implementing policies aimed at improving the nutritional well-being of the Indonesian population.
