New heatwave to hit Europe; Lithuania to see warm weather with rain

Southern Europe is bracing for another heatwave in the first half of June, with significant temperature increases expected.

According to meteorologist G. Stankūnavičius, the heatwave will primarily affect southwestern Europe. Southern Portugal and southwestern Spain are forecast to reach highs of 36-38°C. Southern France can expect temperatures between 35-37°C, while Italy may see up to 35°C. Other Mediterranean regions, including the Balkans, Greece, southern Turkey, and Cyprus, will experience slightly cooler but still warm weather, with temperatures around 30-31°C.

In the first half of next week, another heatwave is expected to arrive in southwestern Europe. The highest heat is predicted in southern Portugal, southwestern Spain (+36 – +38 °C), southern France (+35 – +37 °C), and Italy (up to +35 °C). In other parts of the Mediterranean region – the Balkans, Greece, southern Turkey, Cyprus – the weather will not be as hot (up to +30 – +31 °C).

Meanwhile, Lithuania is set for a period of pleasant warmth, though not without occasional rain and thunderstorms. Meteorologist Elvyra Latvėnaitė forecasts daytime temperatures in Lithuania to range from 18-20°C in the north and northeast to 21-23°C in other areas on Monday. By Tuesday, temperatures could reach 20-24°C, with cooler conditions along the coast. Wednesday may bring heavier rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures varying from 17-19°C in the west to 20-25°C in the east.

Next week in Lithuania, pleasant warmth is expected, which will sometimes be accompanied by rain.

Long-term forecasts suggest that June will be warmer than the multi-year average for the entire Baltic region, including Lithuania, by up to 1°C. Rainfall is predicted to be below normal for the month.

Looking ahead, a deep cyclone is expected to affect Western Europe, bringing rain and strong winds. Lithuania will remain in a low-gradient zone. Temperatures on Thursday are expected to be similar to Wednesday's, around 19-24°C. A weakening atmospheric front on Thursday evening and Friday night may bring scattered showers. By Saturday, a small-scale cyclone forming over central Poland could bring rain and thunderstorms to much of Lithuania. Sunday is predicted to be mostly sunny, dry, and warm, with daytime temperatures rising to 21-26°C. A new precipitation zone is expected to approach from the southwest on Monday.

According to long-term weather forecast data, the average air temperature in June for the entire Baltic region, as well as Lithuania, will be slightly higher than the multi-year average (up to 1 °C), and less precipitation is predicted than normal.
