New Israeli Attacks in Lebanon Leave 11 Dead, Hundreds Displaced, UN Reports

Hundreds of families have fled southern Lebanon for the north after Israel intensified its airstrikes, resulting in at least eleven deaths and nineteen injuries. The United Nations reported these attacks as some of the deadliest since late June.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Lebanon stated on social media that uncertainty forced families to abandon their homes again. "Protection and humanitarian assistance remain fundamental," the UN agency noted in a preliminary assessment of those displaced by the day's attacks.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed that eleven people, including women and children, died and nineteen were wounded in Israeli strikes on the southern towns of Ansar and Deir Zahrani. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attacks in a statement, denouncing "repeated violations of the framework agreement, the work of the military coordination group, and international humanitarian law that protects civilians."

Despite a framework agreement signed in late June aimed at ceasing hostilities during negotiations for lasting peace, and a significant reduction in violence, Israel has continued its attacks on southern Lebanon. The agreement included provisions for Israel's gradual withdrawal from occupied areas in southern Lebanon, referred to as "pilot zones."
