New Lexus NX brings more than 100 km of electric range and DC fast charging

The updated Lexus NX 450h+ will travel more than 100 kilometers on electric power, while becoming the first Lexus plug-in hybrid that can use a DC fast-charging station.

Lexus has increased the battery capacity from 18 to 23 kWh. The system produces 307 horsepower, accelerates the SUV from zero to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and allows it to tow a trailer weighing up to 1,500 kilograms. Charging from 10% to 80% will take about 30 minutes at a DC fast charger.

The battery sits within the vehicle floor, a layout Lexus says improves body rigidity and safety while lowering the center of gravity and supporting stability. The vehicle will also include a 1,500-watt AC outlet for powering external electrical devices.

The NX introduces Lexus’s sixth-generation hybrid technology, with a lighter and more compact system designed to improve efficiency, driving response and handling. The exterior receives a more assertive look, including new frameless front grilles, updated LED headlights and a revised front section. At the rear, a new lighting design links the taillights with an illuminated Lexus logo.

Lexus describes the design direction as "Vital x Tech." Customers will be able to choose 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels, along with two new body colors, Sonic Platinum and Sonic Tellus. Chief engineer Kunihiko Endo said the development focused on longer electric range, faster charging, greater comfort and a more intuitive digital environment.
