New Magazine Rescues History, Architecture, and Living Memory of San Juan Bautista

A new magazine, ‘San Juan Bautista: History and Culture of the Capital Department,’ has been released by the Ha Che Valle Conservatory of Music and the Sonidos de la Tierra Association. The launch coincides with the 82nd anniversary of the death of the renowned musician Agustín Pío Barrios ‘Mangoré.’

The publication delves into the history of San Juan Bautista, identifying and documenting 115 homes of historical value. It also explores the origins of the city's first families and traces its development through a timeline. Key historical milestones, such as the establishment of the Military Command and Political Headquarters by Santos Miño, and the events leading to San Juan Bautista becoming the departmental capital, are featured.

Director Gladys Duarte of Ha Che Valle stated that the magazine is more than just a historical record; it is an act of gratitude and a tribute to the city's past. The project, born from a deep love for the region, aims to foster a sense of custodianship among young people for their local heritage. The research involved identifying historic homes, investigating family origins, and constructing a timeline to understand the city's genesis.

One of the poignant findings highlighted in the magazine is the close friendship between Santos Miño and the Barrios family, which led to Agustín Pío Barrios' birth in the region. The magazine serves as an invitation for children and youth to connect with their roots and understand the importance of loving San Juan Bautista.
