New Mitsubishi 7-seater SUV spotted in Taiwan, could feature turbo power

Mitsubishi's upcoming seven-seater SUV, potentially named the Destinator, is nearing its Taiwan debut, with disguised test vehicles recently sighted on local roads. This sighting follows the SUV's initial unveiling in Indonesia last year and its subsequent introduction in markets like Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The appearance of camouflaged prototypes in Taiwan suggests that China Motor Corporation (CMC), Mitsubishi's local partner, is preparing to launch the new model.

The Destinator, designed with a focus on the "DST" concept, features a striking exterior. It sports T-shaped LED headlights and daytime running lights, complemented by a prominent Dynamic Shield front grille and an off-road-inspired front bumper. The rear design echoes the T-shaped LED taillights and includes a horizontal light bar. With a ground clearance of 214mm and favorable approach, departure, and breakover angles, the SUV appears ready for varied terrain.

Inside, the Destinator aims for a modern and comfortable cabin experience. It is equipped with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 12.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment system. Enhancements include piano-black trim, a Yamaha surround sound system with eight speakers, a panoramic sunroof, and 64-color ambient lighting. The second-row seats offer independent air conditioning and a 40:20:40 split-folding function, while the third-row seats provide a higher seating position, ample knee room, and a 50:50 split-folding capability, along with dedicated air vents.

Safety is a key focus, with the Destinator coming standard with six airbags and the Mitsubishi Motors Safety Sensing suite. This advanced driver-assistance system includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and a front departure alert system. Under the hood, the SUV is powered by a 1.5-liter MIVEC turbocharged gasoline engine paired with a CVT transmission, delivering 163 horsepower and 25.5 kg-m of torque. Drivers can select from five driving modes: Normal, Gravel, Wet, Mud, and Tarmac.
