New nursing home opens in Höfn, Iceland

Höfn, Iceland – A new nursing home, Skjólgarður, officially opened its doors today in Höfn, located in the East Iceland region of Hornafjörður.

The inauguration marks a significant step forward in the development of elderly care services for the area. The new building is designed to meet all current standards for nursing homes, offering residents private spaces and top-tier facilities. This upgrade is expected to substantially enhance the quality of life for those in its care.

Attending the ceremony were several key government officials, including Inga Sæland, Minister of Education and Children; Ragnar Þór Ingólfsson, Minister of Social Affairs and Housing; and Alma Möller, Director of Health. Their presence underscores the national importance placed on improving healthcare infrastructure.

Plans are already underway for further improvements, with renovations scheduled for the existing older section of the nursing home. This ongoing commitment aims to ensure comprehensive and modern care for the region's aging population.
