New padel court opens in Çeşme with sports-focused event

Çeşme, Turkey, has inaugurated a new padel court at 16 Eylül Kurtuluş Park, marking a significant step in the municipality's initiative to expand and enhance sports infrastructure. The opening on August 20 eschewed a conventional ceremony, opting instead for an event centered on the sport itself.

Young participants aged 15-30 took to the new court for its inaugural matches, while other children and residents watched, engaging directly with the sport. Çeşme Mayor Lâl Denizli emphasized the focus on youth and sports, stating, "We envisioned an opening where the court itself truly came to the forefront, rather than a flashy ceremony. I think it turned out beautifully. We put sports at the center instead of protocol."

Denizli also presented a plaque of appreciation to Celal Özüdoğru, founder of Alaçatı Tennis Club, for his contribution to the new padel court. She highlighted the importance of individuals and organizations supporting sports development in Çeşme, adding, "We find the contribution of everyone who develops sports in our district and transforms our fields into vibrant places to be very valuable."

The new padel court is now open for public use, with reservations available via the ÇeşmeKart application. This development is part of Çeşme Municipality's broader strategy to introduce new sports like padel and pickleball, while also renovating existing sports areas to encourage greater public participation.
