New Taipei City's Yingge District Unveils Road and Sidewalk Upgrades, Creating New Landmarks

New Taipei City's Yingge District is enhancing its urban landscape with significant infrastructure upgrades, focusing on improving road accessibility and pedestrian environments. Mayor Hou Yu-ih recently inspected the completion of the Fengji 4th Street bottleneck clearing and Feng 1st Road sidewalk improvement projects.

Public construction should not only make roads safer and pedestrians' walks easier, but also incorporate aesthetics and ingenuity.

The Fengji 4th Street project addressed a critical traffic bottleneck where the road width was reduced to just 3.5 meters, causing difficulties for vehicles to pass each other and hindering emergency services. After years of negotiation and land acquisition, the road has been widened to 7.2 meters, creating a dual-lane road. This improvement is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, reduce accident risks at the intersection, and ensure unimpeded access for large emergency vehicles.

Simultaneously, the Feng 1st Road sidewalk improvements have expanded pedestrian space and incorporated modern amenities. These include smart poles, street furniture, and accessible facilities, all designed to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment. A particularly charming addition is the installation of red heart-shaped street furniture near a streetlight bearing the number '201314,' a romantic nod to the phrase 'love you forever' in Chinese. This creative touch has quickly become a popular spot for visitors to take photos.

Mayor Hou emphasized the city's commitment to sustainable development, starting with fundamental public works like "flat roads, bright lights, and clear drainage." New Taipei City has also completed the replacement of 256,000 LED streetlights across the city, improving lighting quality, promoting energy conservation, and transforming existing infrastructure into "city Easter eggs" that blend practicality with beauty.
