New Taipei MRT San-Ying Line trial operation extended to midnight from Aug. 16

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih has announced an extended free trial operation for the MRT San-Ying Line, which will now run from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. starting August 16. This move aims to provide more convenient public transportation for residents.

The San-Ying Line's trial operation hours will be extended from the current 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. to a full-day operation from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. starting August 16.

The announcement came during a press conference celebrating the 10th anniversary of the New Taipei City Department of Rapid Transit Systems. Mayor Hou highlighted the successful completion and operation of several MRT lines, including the San-Ying Line, which opened on June 30. He noted its popularity as a tourist route, connecting attractions like the New Taipei City Museum of Art and the Yingge Ceramics Museum.

Hou recounted an instance where the San-Ying Line efficiently managed crowds of over 70,000 people attending an event at the museum, demonstrating its operational readiness. With an average daily ridership of 26,000 and 52,000 on weekends, the extension was a response to public demand.

The mayor also touched upon the city's broader transit development, mentioning the successful repair of the Circular line after the Hualien earthquake and the ongoing construction and planning of multiple new lines. New Taipei City is expanding its MRT network to "four rings and eight lines," aiming for 189 kilometers and 182 stations, significantly increasing accessibility for its residents.

Now that operations are stable and without issues, and in anticipation of the start of the school year, I announce that the San-Ying Line's trial operation hours will be extended to the full period of '6 a.m. to 12 a.m.' starting August 16.
