New technology lets drivers travel Polish motorways without holding the wheel

Ford’s BlueCruise system now allows drivers in Poland to travel on motorways without holding the wheel, although they must continue watching the road.

The hands-off, eyes-on technology is available in Poland in the Kuga and Puma BlueCruise Edition models. Ford first introduced BlueCruise in the Mustang Mach-E in 2023, when European regulations approved its use in 16 countries, including Poland.

The system can operate on about 135,000 kilometres of designated motorway sections. In Poland, it has been available on all motorways since 2025, subject to the system’s operating conditions.

BlueCruise is not a fully autonomous driving system. Drivers must remain focused and ready to resume control. The system disengages when the driver presses the brake.

Drivers activate BlueCruise with a steering-wheel button and set the desired cruise speed. When conditions are met, it can control acceleration and braking, maintain a safe distance, keep the vehicle in its lane and handle stop-and-go traffic. Ford Europe executive Christian Weingaertner said the new editions offer motorway driving comfort without using the driver’s hands and without a subscription fee. The company also warns that the system operates only on motorways within designated blue zones.
