New THC Drug Distribution Method Emerges in Indonesia

Indonesian authorities have revealed the emergence of a novel drug distribution method involving Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) infused candies, reportedly originating from the United Kingdom. The Criminal Investigation Agency of the Indonesian National Police apprehended a suspect, identified by the initials AJE, while he was collecting a package containing these narcotics at a post office in Malang, East Java.

According to Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of the Narcotics Criminal Act Directorate, the suspect allegedly ordered the THC candies through a website. Investigations indicate that AJE may have placed orders on four separate occasions, with the first recorded on March 4, 2026, for 10 candies. Subsequent orders included 30 pieces of chocolate containing THC narcotics on March 31, 2026, a liquid form of narcotics on May 21, 2026, and the most recent order on August 19, 2026.

Chief Commissioner Zulkarnain Harahap, Head of Sub-Directorate III of the Narcotics Criminal Act Directorate, highlighted that these THC candies represent a new frontier in narcotics circulation within Indonesia. "This is the first time we've found and uncovered this in the Indonesian territory," Harahap stated. The suspect claimed the packages were for personal consumption. The latest confiscated order weighed 231 grams and is now part of the ongoing investigation. AJE faces charges under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics and/or Article 609 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning Criminal Adjustments.
