New train station opens near Tesla factory in Germany after delays

The new Fangschleuse train station, located near Tesla's Gigafactory in Grünheide, Germany, has officially opened, aiming to improve commuter access in the region. However, the station experienced a delayed start to service, with trains beginning to stop there later than scheduled on Saturday evening.

Regional express trains on the RE1 line, which connects Berlin and Frankfurt (Oder), were the first to utilize the new station. This line is a crucial route for many commuters, including employees of the Tesla automobile factory. The Ostdeutsche Eisenbahngesellschaft (Odeg), the operator of the line, confirmed the commencement of train services.

Deutsche Bahn expressed its regret for the delay experienced by passengers and the other rail operator. The opening was initially planned for Saturday morning. However, the railway subsidiary DB InfraGo announced the delay on Friday evening, citing reasons that led to the postponement of the service start.

Construction of the Fangschleuse station took 16 months. It is situated closer to the Tesla plant than the previous station and is designed to accommodate longer trains, potentially increasing capacity and efficiency for the busy commuter route.
