New trial set for Tifauzia Tyassuma's fake diploma case

The East Jakarta District Court has set a new trial date for the defamation case involving Tifauzia Tyassuma, who is accused of using a fake diploma. The proceedings are scheduled to commence on August 6, 2026.

This new trial follows a previous interim ruling where the panel of judges granted Tifauzia's legal team's objection, deeming the prosecutor's indictment legally void due to insufficient care in its preparation. This decision effectively halted the proceedings before they could move into the examination of the main case.

The judges found that the indictment was not meticulously, clearly, or completely drafted. They also noted inconsistencies in the legal basis used by the prosecution, citing the blending of old and new Criminal Code provisions within the same charge.

Following the court's decision, prosecutors were instructed to refile the case documents. This refiling occurred on July 28, 2026, with improved charges. Consequently, the case, registered under number 354/Pid.B/2026/PN Jkt Tim, will begin anew, with all proceedings starting from the initial stages.

The judicial panel for this new trial will consist of Presiding Judge Christina Endarwati and fellow judges Rudi Rafli Siregar and Mathilda Chrystina Katarina, the same panel that handled the initial proceedings. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police Regional Directorate, which initially investigated the case, respects the court's decision and acknowledges the prosecution's opportunity to rectify the indictment.
