Neymar Returns to Training with Brazil Ahead of World Cup Matches

Brazilian striker Neymar has taken a significant step in his recovery, returning to training for the first time since sustaining a calf injury. The 34-year-old participated in running drills at the 2026 World Cup training camp in New Jersey, signaling his increasing proximity to a return to the field.

Neymar suffered the injury in late May and had been undergoing treatment and rehabilitation since the Brazilian squad arrived in the United States. While he has now returned to the training ground, he has not yet rejoined full team practice. His presence on the field marks a crucial development in his rehabilitation process.

The veteran forward missed Brazil's opening match, a 1-1 draw against Morocco, on Saturday. His participation in the current tournament had been a subject of uncertainty due to persistent fitness problems. Neymar has played a vital role in Brazil's last three World Cup campaigns, but his involvement this year was questioned after a prolonged period sidelined, having not played for Brazil since 2023.

Throughout the current season, Neymar's playing time has been limited, appearing in only about half of his club's matches across league, domestic cup, and Copa Sudamericana competitions due to fitness concerns. Brazil is scheduled to play Haiti in Philadelphia and then conclude their Group C matches against Scotland in Miami on June 24. Neymar's return is expected to be a welcome boost for the Brazilian squad, who are aiming for their sixth world title.
