NGO Partners Lagos, Others for 6th Inter-Public Schools Championship

The Shamadean Imole Charity Foundation has initiated the sixth edition of the Lagos State Inter-Public Schools Championship, an event designed to foster academic excellence, creativity, and sportsmanship among students in public secondary schools across the state. This initiative is organized in partnership with the Lagos State government through its Ministries of Basic and Secondary Education and Information.

The championship brings together public junior and senior secondary schools from the state's six education districts. It features a diverse range of activities, including debates, chess, scrabble, table tennis, football (male and female), and cooking competitions for both students and teachers. A key component is the Lagos State High School Creatives (LSHSC), which provides a platform for nurturing artistic talents through miming, acapella, and cultural presentations.

Organizers stated that the competition aims to provide students with opportunities to showcase their talents while encouraging healthy competition, teamwork, and leadership. The initiative seeks to revive the value of education by engaging students in activities that promote intellectual growth, creativity, and character development beyond the traditional classroom setting. Preliminary rounds have already begun in various parts of the state.

Aderemi Oki, the convener of the foundation, explained the inspiration behind the event: "We started in 2021, and our main goal is to bring back the value of education to Lagos State through engaging events like sports and debate that will attract the students and out-of-school kids to education. So far, we’ve been able to return over 700 students to school."

The championship is scheduled to continue in September after schools resume, with major events planned across the state. The cooking competition is set for October 27, followed by the football finals on November 19. The creative segment will also take place in November. The foundation encourages public secondary schools, students, teachers, and other stakeholders to support the initiative, which has served as a platform for discovering and nurturing young talent while reinforcing the importance of quality education in Lagos State.
