NGO seeks investigation into police influencer Marian Godină's activities and income

An NGO has formally complained to Romanian authorities about police officer Marian Godină, a prominent social media influencer. The organization, Patria Prima, argues that Godină's public profile and income streams raise questions about his ability to maintain discretion required by his role in the Special Actions unit.

We filed a complaint against Mr. Godină yesterday. Officially, with a registration number, at IGPR, at the Control Body MAI, and at ANI.

Patria Prima stated its complaint is not about Godină expressing opinions online but about a potential conflict between his police duties and his extensive public activities. The NGO highlighted his large social media following, television appearances, books, and income from platforms like Facebook Ireland and Google Ireland, which are listed in his wealth declaration.

The NGO specifically pointed out that Godină declared nearly 90,000 lei from copyright alone, while publicly lamenting his 4,400 lei salary. Patria Prima also accused Godină of engaging in political propaganda, which they claim violates police regulations prohibiting public expression of political opinions. The organization believes his actions, including mocking voters and promoting a specific political direction, are inappropriate for a state employee.
