UK's MI6 tops European intelligence ranking; Romania places 11th

The United Kingdom's MI6 has been named Europe's most powerful intelligence agency, according to a ranking by French magazine L'Express. The survey, based on evaluations from 60 former and current intelligence chiefs across 25 European countries, placed France's DGSE second and Dutch services third.

Romania secured the 11th position with 15 points, outranking countries like Spain, Italy, and Belgium. This rare glimpse into the European espionage landscape highlights the perceived strengths and weaknesses of various national intelligence operations. Ukraine ranked fourth, noted for its innovative and aggressive covert operations, followed by Germany's BND, recognized for its analytical capabilities despite operational shortcomings.

L'Express conducted a three-month investigation, interviewing approximately 100 individuals active in the intelligence field. The publication aimed to capture the "invisible war" waged by European intelligence services and their crucial role in understanding major geopolitical upheavals. Participants were asked to create their own top five lists based on personal collaboration experiences with European agencies.
