Nha Trang Defends Merger of 13 Primary Schools Into a 287-Class ‘Super-School’

Nha Trang ward has defended its decision to merge 13 primary schools into a single institution with 287 classes and 10,565 students, saying the arrangement follows central government policy and was carefully calculated.

The new Nha Trang Primary School includes one main campus, 12 satellite campuses and five school sites. It has 524 managers, teachers and other staff. The scale of the institution has prompted questions about whether teaching and administration can function effectively after the merger.

Huỳnh Quang Tú, vice chairman of Nha Trang ward’s People’s Committee, said the restructuring follows the government and Ministry of Education and Training’s orientation that each local authority should have one school at each educational level. He said the main campus at 10 Lê Thánh Tôn is a nationally accredited school in a central location, near government offices.

Tú said the former school sites are not far apart and are connected by well-developed roads, making travel to the main campus convenient for teachers and students during large activities. He said the principal would use an overall management plan and a separate system operated by the school’s leadership, while work groups on social media would remain active to handle issues promptly.

Vice principals would take responsibility for individual satellite campuses, with duties assigned clearly. Student records and grades would be entered into software for centralized management, and each satellite campus would retain support staff. “From the local authority’s perspective, we will stay close to the school, providing direction and support during this period,” Tú said. He added that the ward would continue gathering feedback from staff and addressing difficulties so teachers could work with confidence.
