Niagara police renew call for help solving case of 8 horses stabbed last year

Authorities in the Niagara Region are once again seeking the public's help to solve a disturbing act of animal cruelty that occurred over a year ago. Niagara Regional Police Service launched an investigation on July 31, 2025, after farm staff discovered eight horses with injuries consistent with stab or cut wounds.

The incident is believed to have taken place between the evening of July 30 and the morning of July 31, 2025, at a horse boarding farm located near Buchner Road and Highway 140 in Welland, Ontario. Of the eight injured animals, six received treatment on-site. However, one horse required emergency care at an out-of-town veterinary hospital, and tragically, another horse was found dead at the scene.

A year later, police issued a renewed call for information on Monday, urging anyone who might possess details that could advance the investigation. The police service described the event as a "disturbing act of animal cruelty."
