Nigeria Dominates Global Rankings for Largest Church Auditoriums

Africa, particularly Nigeria, is witnessing the construction of some of the world's largest church auditoriums, designed to hold tens of thousands of worshippers. These megachurches are investing heavily in infrastructure to accommodate their growing congregations.

The Hand of God Cathedral, operated by Salvation Ministries, is currently reported as the world’s largest church auditorium, with a capacity of 120,000 worshippers.

Nigeria dominates the global rankings for seating capacity. Salvation Ministries' Hand of God Cathedral in Port Harcourt leads with a reported 120,000 seats, surpassing other Nigerian megachurches. This massive worship center was dedicated in November 2025 and is associated with Pastor David Ibiyeomie.

Another significant project is 'The Ark' in Ota, Ogun State, associated with Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners' Chapel). This planned auditorium is set to seat 109,345 worshippers, representing an expansion of their existing 50,000-seat Faith Tabernacle. Its projected capacity places it among the largest ever planned.
