Nigeria: FRSC recovers two suspected stolen vehicles, hands suspects to police

Nigerian authorities have successfully recovered two vehicles suspected of being stolen, utilizing the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS) to identify discrepancies and confirm their illicit status. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) played a key role in these recoveries.

Further verification using the vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), immediately revealed a different registration number and ownership details, prompting a more detailed investigation.

The first incident involved a Toyota Highlander, presented for verification at the NVIS New Benin Office. During the process, FRSC personnel discovered that the provided registration number, KSF730GK, was valid but not assigned to any vehicle. A deeper check using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) revealed a different registration number and ownership details. The legitimate owner, contacted by the FRSC, confirmed the vehicle had been stolen in Lagos in June 2025.

The recovered vehicle is a Silver Toyota Highlander with Chassis Number JTEES41A492116703 and Engine Number 2GR1047752. The authentic registration details on the NVIS database correspond to Registration Number AKD339JN.

In a separate operation, a black Toyota Venza was intercepted at the same NVIS office. This vehicle, brought in without a registration number, underwent VIN verification. The NVIS portal confirmed its lawful registration to Mr. Ogbodo Gift Nyore of Sapele, Delta. The owner reported that the vehicle, along with a woman, had disappeared since January 2026 in Sapele.

Upon inputting the VIN into the NVIS portal, it was discovered that the vehicle was duly registered with Registration Number SAP446AG.

Following these verifications, the FRSC promptly involved the Nigeria Police Force. Both recovered vehicles and the involved suspects were handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Edo for comprehensive investigation.
