Nigeria Immigration Service Sends Passport Team to UK to Ease Applications

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dispatched a specialized Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom to alleviate passport application backlogs and improve service delivery for Nigerians living abroad. This initiative, spearheaded by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is part of broader efforts to enhance passport services for the diaspora.

Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has directed the team from NIS headquarters in Abuja to the UK. Scheduled to arrive on August 10, 2026, the team will collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission in processing pending, new, and renewal passport applications. They will also travel to various UK cities to conduct enrollment and processing, making the service accessible to Nigerians across the country.

The home delivery service also remains available to applicants.

The intervention is open to all Nigerians in the UK with pending applications, those seeking new passports, or individuals needing to renew passports with less than a year remaining validity. Applicants will need to present completed forms and proof of payment during the enrollment process. The NIS has assured that its digital application channels and home delivery services will remain operational concurrently.

Detailed schedules for the intervention, including specific cities, dates, venues, and times, will be announced by the Nigerian High Commission. The NIS reiterated its commitment to providing "efficient, transparent and responsive passport Service Delivery to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora."
