Nigeria Parties Submit Candidates as INEC Extends Nomination Deadline

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed the successful upload of its presidential and National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Candidate Nomination Portal. This achievement comes after INEC extended the nomination deadline to July 14, providing parties with additional time to finalize submissions for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

I am pleased to inform all PDP members and Nigerians that our great Party, under my leadership, has successfully uploaded the names of our Presidential Candidate, his Running Mate, and our National Assembly candidates onto the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal.

PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, hailed the upload as a significant milestone. "This is a clear demonstration of our commitment to the promise we made that, under my leadership, the PDP will fully participate in the 2027 General Elections," Mohammed stated. He added that the party is continuing the process for governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates, expressing confidence in meeting the new deadline.

The nomination process has already highlighted varying levels of preparedness among political parties. While the PDP, African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) reported smooth progress, other parties like the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) and Accord Party encountered procedural difficulties. This period serves as an initial assessment of how ready parties are for the electoral contest.

Political parties gained access to the nomination portal between June 26 and June 30. The original deadline of July 11 was extended by INEC to allow parties more time to complete outstanding nominations, particularly for state-level positions. The PDP's successful submission occurs amidst ongoing factional disputes within the party, underscoring their efforts to consolidate and prepare for the 2027 polls.
