United Nigeria Airlines, in particular, has experienced a concerning surge in incidents, with three aircraft grounded within a mere 48-hour period in April 2026 alone. This pattern, extending to other major carriers like Air Peace, highlights a systemic issue that demands urgent attention.

Obiora Okonkwo, chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, voiced the severe operational strain these strikes inflict, noting that multiple aircraft remain grounded due to bird encounters. The financial implications are substantial, encompassing maintenance costs and the disruption of services. The airline's chairman emphasized that the reported incidents are likely only a fraction of the total, as less severe encounters that do not result in grounded aircraft often go unpublicized.
