Nigeria's historic performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow signals a new era for the nation's sports development, according to AFN Performance Director Victor Okorie. Okorie, a former Nigerian track and field international, believes the achievement should propel the country towards greater success at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Okorie, who has extensive experience as a former elite athlete, emphasized that the team's success transcended the number of medals won. He noted that Nigeria's athletes excelled even with a significantly reduced program at the Glasgow games, which featured only 10 sports compared to the usual 19 or 20. Despite this limitation, Team Nigeria secured 10 gold medals, only two fewer than in previous campaigns contested across nearly twice as many events.
