Nigeria's July oil production drops 4% to 1.67mbpd due to field challenges

Nigeria's daily oil production experienced a 4% decline in July 2026, dropping to 1.67 million barrels per day (mbpd) from 1.74 mbpd recorded in the previous month, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).

The NUPRC data revealed that the country produced 1.505 mbpd of crude oil and 0.17 mbpd of condensate in July, bringing the total daily output to 1.67 mbpd. This figure represents a decrease from the peak production of 1.78 mbpd observed during the month and the lowest output of 1.57 mbpd.

The commission attributed the July decline primarily to operational challenges encountered at the Erha and Akpo fields, which significantly impacted production volumes. These disruptions constrained output and contributed substantially to the reduction in national oil production.

Despite these challenges, Nigeria has sustained its oil production above the 1.5 mbpd OPEC quota for the third consecutive month. While production operations at most other assets remained stable, the NUPRC highlighted that disruptions at key producing fields continue to be a factor affecting overall output.
