Nigeria’s ports record 12.3% rise in cargo throughput amid maritime reforms

Cargo throughput at Nigeria’s ports rose 12.3% in the second quarter of 2026, according to the Nigerian Ports Authority’s operational performance report.

The report also recorded significant growth in vessel traffic, container movements and vehicle traffic. The NPA attributed the developments to reforms introduced by the Federal Government in the maritime sector.

The figures were reported in the authority’s Q2 2026 operational performance report, which presented the increase as part of broader improvements across port activity.
