Nigeria Seizes Cocaine Bound for China, Italy; Arrests Bandits' Drug Supplier

Operatives of Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully intercepted multiple drug consignments, thwarting attempts to smuggle cocaine to China and Italy through a logistics company in Lagos. The agency reported that the drugs were concealed within a local mortar and the false bottom of a backpack, highlighting the increasingly sophisticated methods employed by traffickers.

These seizures are part of a broader intensified campaign against illicit substances. In Rivers State, a notorious drug dealer was apprehended with a variety of drugs including cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, swinol, tramadol, and codeine syrup. Simultaneously, in Anambra State, authorities intercepted a truck carrying a substantial 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup. Delta State also saw the recovery of over 331 kilograms of skunk from a Toyota Sienna bus.

Further operations in Nasarawa State led to the arrest of a 64-year-old individual with significant amounts of skunk and methamphetamine. In Zamfara State, operatives intercepted a suspect carrying 7,400 pills of tramadol, believed to be supplied to criminal elements. These successful interdictions underscore the NDLEA's commitment to combating drug trafficking across the country.

NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa, praised the officers involved in these operations across various commands. He urged them to maintain a consistent and balanced approach in the agency's ongoing war against drugs. The NDLEA also continues its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities in schools, religious centers, and communities nationwide, aiming to raise awareness and prevent drug abuse.

These include: WADA enlightenment lecture to students and staff of Hausawa Special Primary School, Kano; Royal Crown School, Oluyole, Ibadan; Government Secondary School, Ibi, Taraba; and drivers at Challenge Bus Terminal Park, Ibadan, Oyo state, among others.
