Since the tournament's inception in 1991, only three nations have ever lifted the WAFCON trophy. Nigeria leads the pack with an overwhelming 10 titles. Equatorial Guinea has won it twice, securing their victories in 2008 and 2012, notably becoming the first nation other than Nigeria to win in 2008. South Africa finally claimed their maiden title in 2022, overcoming five previous runner-up finishes.
