Nigerian Law School confirms student’s death at Lagos Campus

The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the death of a student who fell from the rooftop of a hostel at its Lagos Campus. The student, who was temporarily housed at the campus for an externship program, tragically died in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026.

In a statement released on Monday, the school's Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke Osho, confirmed the incident occurred around 4 a.m. "Preliminary information indicates that, at about 4:00am on Friday, 7 August 2026, the student fell from the rooftop of the hostel at the Campus and, sadly, succumbed to the incident," the statement read. The school did not disclose the student's identity or the circumstances leading to the fall.

The management is cooperating with authorities and the deceased student's family to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident. "The Management is working closely with the appropriate authorities and the family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, ensure that all necessary procedures are duly followed, and provide further information as appropriate," Osho stated. The school extended condolences to the family and colleagues, urging respect for their privacy during their mourning period.

This confirmation follows an earlier report suggesting the deceased was 23-year-old Faith Alayande. The Lagos State Police Command reportedly stated that a suicide note was found, and the student allegedly jumped from the four-story building. However, the Nigerian Law School's official statement only referred to a fall and did not mention suicide, distinguishing it from the police account. The school reiterated its commitment to student safety and well-being.
