Nigerian national in Lithuania charged with drug possession and distribution

Lithuanian authorities have charged a Nigerian citizen, residing in the country illegally, with drug possession and distribution. The investigation revealed that the individual allegedly used an internet messaging application to order a shipment of narcotic and psychotropic substances, paying for it with cryptocurrency.

During a search of the suspect's residence in April, various packages containing plant-based substances were discovered. Law enforcement also seized electronic scales, packaging materials, and a vacuum sealer. Forensic analysis confirmed that the seized substances included cannabis and cannabis resin, along with mixtures containing the psychotropic substance tetrahydrocannabinol.

In total, over 198 grams of cannabis and more than 11 grams of cannabis resin were found, alongside various mixtures containing tetrahydrocannabinol. The Nigerian national partially admits guilt, acknowledging the illegal possession of narcotics but denying any intent to distribute them.

The criminal case has been forwarded to the Vilnius District Court. If convicted of acquiring, possessing, transporting, or sending narcotic or psychotropic substances with the intent to sell or distribute them, the suspect faces a prison sentence ranging from two to eight years. The investigation was led by a prosecutor from the Vilnius District Prosecutor's Office.
