Nigerian party ADC reaffirms commitment to rebuilding in Rivers State after court resolves leadership dispute

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Nigeria, has reaffirmed its dedication to rebuilding and strengthening the party. This commitment follows the resolution of a protracted leadership dispute, with the party calling on its members to embrace peace, unity, and adherence to the rule of law.

According to Chief Luckyman Egila, the party's State Publicity Secretary, recent court judgments have definitively settled the leadership crisis. Federal High Court rulings nullified congresses conducted in violation of the party's constitution, paving the way for fresh elections. The Court of Appeal later affirmed these judgments on July 13, 2026, confirming the legality of the newly elected executives.

Our struggle has never been about personalities, titles or positions. It has always been about preserving the sanctity of our Party Constitution, protecting democratic institutions and ensuring that the rule of law prevails over arbitrariness.

The current Rivers State Executive Committee is led by State Chairman Engr. Ode Lawrence Egbagiri. Other key officials include State Secretary Hon. Iheanyi Eugene Eke, State Legal Adviser Barr. Hamza Victor Chukure, and Chief Luckyman Egila himself as State Publicity Secretary. These leaders, along with others, were elected for a four-year term.

Egila urged the public and party faithful to disregard any claims from individuals not part of the recognized executive committee. He stressed that the appellate court's decision reinforces the supremacy of the party's constitution and the importance of internal democracy. The leadership remains committed to rebuilding the ADC into a formidable political force based on justice, inclusiveness, accountability, transparency, and respect for the rule of law.
