Nigerian troops dismantle ISWAP camp, kill 21 terrorists in Adamawa State

Troops of the Nigerian Army's Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have successfully dismantled an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) camp in the Kopre Mountain general area of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State. The operation, a joint offensive involving the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team and newly deployed troops, was executed following credible intelligence.

Navigating the difficult and rugged terrain, the joint force successfully penetrated the terrorists’ enclave and launched a precision strike on the camp in the early hours of August 27, 2026.

According to Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, the coordinated operation led to the killing of no fewer than 21 terrorists, with several others escaping with injuries. The troops navigated difficult terrain to penetrate the enclave and launched a precision strike on the camp in the early hours of August 27, 2026. This offensive is part of sustained efforts to locate and rescue victims held by terrorist elements, including those abducted from Mussa community in May 2026 and Lassa schoolchildren in June 2026.

Following fierce engagements, over 21 terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.

During the operation, troops engaged terrorists in two separate encounters, resulting in the neutralization of over 21 fighters. The joint force subsequently secured the area, dismantled the entire camp, and destroyed associated logistics infrastructure. This action significantly degraded the terrorists' operational capability in the region. Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, magazines, and a substantial quantity of ammunition. Additionally, several motorcycles, bicycles, and jerrycans containing fuel, believed to support terrorist logistics, were destroyed.

The joint force subsequently dominated the area, dismantled the entire terrorist camp and destroyed associated logistics infrastructure, thereby further degrading the terrorists’ operational capability within the area.

Captain Goni highlighted that the successful operation demonstrates the sustained operational tempo, tactical proficiency, intelligence exploitation, and combat effectiveness of the joint force. It also showcases the troops' capacity to project combat power into challenging terrain, dismantle terrorist enclaves, and restrict the freedom of action for terrorist elements. The Military High Command commended the gallantry, professionalism, resilience, and coordination displayed by all involved units.
